    Prickly Pear Oil
The Prickly Pear is a member of the cactus family, it can thrive through long droughts, producing fruit that contains small black seeds. Inside the delicious fruits of the prickly pear are seeds that contain the finest quality, precious oil carrying different types of fatty acids, phenols, nutrients such as vitamin E, vitamin K, phytosterols, and antioxidants. This oil is extremely hydrating and skin softening.

    Blue Spirulina
One of the most nutritious ingredients on the planet is Spirulina. Spirulina is a blue-green algae (found in both fresh and saltwater) or cyanobacteria, which is a type of bacteria that lives in water; they get their energy through photosynthesis.
Spirulina is highly nutritious, it contains 8 essential amino acids, Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin B and Iron. It is also high in protein, which is necessary for cell repair and growth. That combined with being a rich source of antioxidants makes spirulina highly effective in the fight against free radicals.
On top of that, Spirulina contains a rare fatty acid known as gamma linolenic acid (known to promote the structural integrity of skin and decrease skin inflammation).

Referred to by some as the Everlasting or Immortal Flower, the Helichrysum plant offers several benefits to the skin. With rejuvenating and restorative properties, Helichrysum oil has many uses, including reducing the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles, and providing a soothing sensation for the skin. Helichrysum essential oil has anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antibacterial properties that may be useful in healing skin.

    Baobab Oil
Baobab is our hero ingredient as it is found in most of our products.
Baobab (native to Africa) is often referred to as the “tree of life”. The powerful health and skincare benefits of baobab oil have been known and used by communities in Africa for centuries.
Pressed from the seeds of the baobab tree, baobab oil is a luxurious (plant based), nutrient rich oil. Baobab oil is a one-ingredient powerhouse! It is an excellent moisturiser and works to improve skin elasticity – naturally. Rich in vitamins A, D, E and F, it also helps to restore the skin’s natural glow.
Baobab oil is ideal to use on the skin because of its lightweight, smooth texture that absorbs quickly and isn’t greasy.

  • What exactly is the balm?

It’s a solid oil botanical concentrate. It has a higher oil concentration than our Everyday Cream and has no water. It’s a combination of waxes, oils and butter that help to seal/protect the skin.

The Facial Hydrating Oil is a lighter oil without waxes and butter.

    What’s its main use?

In short. It seals in moisture and helps to repair the skin barrier.

The Balm is an SOS dry skin remedy for the face or any area of skin in need of nourishing relief. It can be used as a daily moisturiser for the face or body, a lip balm, cuticle treatment or beard balm …and the list goes on!

    What’s it for?

Any area of skin that is dry, flaky, irritated or red and in need of barrier protection.

Versatility is an important part of the Slow Beauty ‘do more with less’ ethos. We love formulations that can do many different things for many different people.

What does it feel like on your skin? Is it heavy/sticky?

It’s not sticky but it does feel heavier than the Everyday Cream. This is because of the waxes that are there to seal in the moisture and provide extra comfort.

What’s in it?What makes it blue?

Blue Spirulina - one of the most nutritious ingredients on the planet!

It contains 8 essential amino acids, Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin B and Iron. It is also high in protein, which is necessary for cell repair and growth. That combined with being a rich source of antioxidants makes spirulina highly effective in the fight against free radicals.

It also contains Baobab, Jojoba, Prickly Pear Seed and Marula Oils. Mango butter provides the creamy texture. Helichrysum is the healing powerhouse essential oil.

    How do you use it?

It will be the last step in your skin care routine after the cream to seal in moisture and act as a barrier repair. When the oil is hard it’s best to use the back of your nail to scoop up a pea sized amount of balm. Warm between palms and smooth into your skin.

    Does it help with eczema?

This is a hydrating and nourishing product that can help to alleviate the dry, itchy symptoms of eczema, though it is not a cure.

Helichrysum essential oil contains an anti-inflammatory substance called arzanol, which plays a part in healing the skin. Mango butter, Jojoba, Baobab and Marula oils are also excellent for this.

    Is it good for rosacea?

With Rosacea, skin is more sensitive and you should keep your skin routine very simple and light. We haven’t tested The Balm on rosacea but The Balms restorative and soothing qualities could be beneficial. We’d suggest a test patch before. We’d love to hear how it works.

Will it melt in hot weather and can I store it in the fridge if necessary?

It is a solid oil/wax blend and that has a high melting point but the waxes will soften. In the height of summer it should be stored in a cool place and yes, it can definitely be stored in the fridge if you want it to be more solid.

Does your face have a glow/shine after using it?

    GLOW!But not shiny.

Is it good for acne as well?

The Skin Tonic is the best hydrator if you have acne. But if you are on medication for your acne that is very dry, itchy and inflamed then The Balm can help to relieve the symptoms.

Can you use this on oily skin?

Oily skins typically prefer a lighter texture. If your skin is already very oily but you’d like a night treatment, we’d suggest using the Facial Hydrating Oil.

Does it help for ingrown hairs?

No, we’d recommend exfoliation for ingrown hairs.

Does it stain your skin, collars and bedding?

The Balm is clear when rubbed into the skin so it won’t stain. It is fully absorbed and leaves no blue residue.

Is it safe to use during pregnancy?

    Yes, it is.
